JACK H. JACOBS

Place of birth
Brooklyn, New York

Service/branch
United States Army
Battles/wars
Vietnam War
PLACE WHERE HE RECEIVED IT: U.S ARMY VIETNAM 5/16/68
Citation:
For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. Capt. Jacobs (then 1st Lt.), Infantry, distinguished himself while serving as assistant battalion advisor, 2d Battalion, 16th Infantry,
9th Infantry Division, Army of the Republic of Vietnam. The 2d Battalion was advancing to contact when it came under intense heavy machine gun and mortar fire from a Viet Cong battalion positioned in well fortified bunkers. As the 2d Battalion deployed into attack formation its advance was halted by devastating fire. Capt. Jacobs, with the command element of the lead company, called for and directed air strikes on the enemy positions to facilitate a renewed attack. Due to the intensity of the enemy fire and heavy casualties to the command group, including the company commander, the attack stopped and the friendly troops became disorganized. Although wounded by mortar fragments, Capt. Jacobs assumed command of the allied company, ordered a withdrawal from the exposed position and established a defensive perimeter. Despite profuse bleeding from head wounds which impaired his vision, Capt. Jacobs, with complete disregard for his safety, returned under intense fire to evacuate a seriously wounded advisor to the safety of a wooded area where he administered lifesaving first aid. He then returned through heavy automatic weapons fire to evacuate the wounded company commander. Capt. Jacobs made repeated trips across the fire-swept open rice paddies evacuating wounded and their weapons. On 3 separate occasions, Capt. Jacobs contacted and drove off Viet Cong squads who were searching for allied wounded and weapons, single-handedly killing 3 and wounding several others. His gallant actions and extraordinary heroism saved the lives of 1 U.S. advisor and 13 allied soldiers. Through his effort the allied company was restored to an effective fighting unit and prevented defeat of the friendly forces by a strong and determined enemy. Capt. Jacobs, by his gallantry and bravery in action in the highest traditions of the military service, has reflected great credit upon himself, his unit, and the U.S. Army.
I THANK JACK H. JACOB SBECAUSE HE RISKED HIS LIFE KNOWING THAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN THE LAST DAY THAT HE WOULD LIVE. SPECIALLY GETTING UNDER A MACHINE GUN I KNOW THAT I WOULDNT HAVE DONE THAT KNOWING THAT I HAVE FAMILY BACK HOME. I THANK JACOBS BECAUSE HE HELPED US WITH THE WAR AND WE WON IT HAVING PEOPLE LIKE HIM IN IT.

TWO LESS TO CHECK!!!

1.MY MOM TOLD ME THAT IF I WANTED TO GO TO SEE MY NIECE IN CICERO THAT I HAD TO FIND MY OWN RIDE THERE! SINCE ONE OF MY GOALS WAS TO RIDE MY BIKE MORE OFTEN I DECIDED TO RIDE MY BIKE TO CICERO TO SEE MY NIECE. MY MOM SAID THAT I WAS CRAZY GOING IN A BIKE BUT IT WAS WORTH IT. I WOULD GET THERE A LITTLE LATE BECAUSE THE FIRST TIME I WAS ALL TIRED BECAUSE IT HAD BEEN ABOUT A YEAR OR TWO THAT I DIDN'T RIDE MY BIKE AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I DECIDE TO GO TO CICERO!!! I STARTED GOING THERE AT LEAST TWICE A WEEK SO NOW I'M USED TO GOING AND I TAKE ABOUT THIRTY OR TWENTY MINUTES(ITS FAR OKAY!) I REALLY HAD TO COMMIT MYSELF TO THIS GOAL BECAUSE IF I DIDN'T DO IT NOW I NEVER WAS AND I HAVE BEEN DOING FOR A MONTH NOW SO HOPEFULLY I GET TO GET THERE FASTER:) I CAN SAY THAT I'M REALLY PROUD OF MYSELF THIS TIME BECAUSE I DIDN'T REALLY THINK THAT I WAS GOING TO REACH THIS GOAL BUT I LOVE MY NIECE AND I HAVE TO SEE HER!!!

2.ANOTHER GOAL THAT I ACCOMPLISHED WAS THAT I SHOWED MY NIECE/ FUTURE GOD DAUGHTER (IM GOING TO BAPTIZE HER)HOW TO WALK:) NOW THIS TOOK ME A LOT OF WORK I HAD TO SPEND WITH HER ATLEAST TWO HOURS TRYING TO GET HER TO DO TWO TO THREE STEPS WITH NO ONE HELPING HER:) SINCE SHE IS A LITTLE CHUBBY WE HAD A HARD TIME KEEPING HER UP. WE TOOK ABOUT TWO MONTHS TO LET HER WALK BY HERSELF. I WOULD GET FRUSTRATED SOMETIMES BECAUSE I TOUGHT THAT I WASNT TEACHING HER GOOD ENOUGH BUT I GOT TO DO IT!!! THIS REALLY MENT A LOT FOR ME BECAUSE SHE WAS THE FIRST BABY IN THE FAMILY THAT IS I NIECE TO EVERYONE. I KNEW THAT SINCE I AM ABOUT TO BE LIKE HER SECOND MOTHER I DID WHAT I HAD TO DO TO TEACH HER THINGS THAT SHE IS GOING TO NEED IN LIFE AND THANKFULLY SHE GOT TO WALK.

I HAVE A DREAM...

"I HAVE A DREAM THAT MY FOUR LITTLE CHILDREN WILL ONE DAY LIVE IN A NATION WHERE THEY WILL NOT BE JUDGED BY THE COLOR OF THEIR SKIN BUT BY THE CONTENT OF THEIR CHARACTER."-------Martin Luther King Jr.
THIS QUOTE MIGHT HAVE BEEN IMPORTANT TO THE AUDIENCE BECAUSE THEY WANTED THEIR WORD TO BE HEARD AND MARTIN LUTHER KING WAS MAKING IT HAPPEN. PEOPLE WERE TIRED OF BEING JUDGED BY THEIR SKIN COLOR AND BEING LOOKED AS SOMETHING LESS THAN THEMSELVES. THE AUDIENCE THAT WAS LISTENING TO THIS SPEECH PROBABLY AGREED BECAUSE THEY HAD CHILDREN TOO AND DIDN'T WANT THEM TO GO TO THE SAME THAT THEY DID.
I THINK THIS IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE EVEN UNTIL NOW THEIR IS STILL SEGREGATION GOING ON EVERYWHERE EVEN IN OUR SCHOOL. WHEN EVER YOU SEE CLICKS THEIR ALWAYS HISPANICS IN ONE SIDE AND COLORED IN THE OTHER. PEOPLE TRY MAKE THIS A DIFFERENCE BUT WHEN YOU WALK INTO A CLASS IT IS ALWAYS LIKE THAT. TEACHERS MIGHT NOT DO IT ON PURPOSE BUT WE ARE ALL LOOKED AT FOR OUR COLOR NOT OUR CHARACTER IT WAS HARD FOR MARTIN LUTHER KING TO GET HIS WORD ACROSS BUT HE DID. TH ATS WHY WE NEED TO FOLLOW HISTORY THAT FALLS BEHIND US BECAUSE WE NEED TO FIGHT FOR OUR RIGHTS AND WE KNOW THAT ONE DAY WERE GOING TO BE MOTHERS TOO AND WE DON'T WANT OUR CHILDREN TO GROW UP WITH ALL THIS SEGREGATION THAT IS STILL GOING ON IN CERTAIN AREAS.

HIS N HER AMERICAN DREAM

MOM SAYS THAT HER AMERICAN DREAM WAS TO COME HERE FOR US THAT SHE DID NT REALLY CARE ABOUT HER BU THAT SHE KNEW THAT THIS COUNTRY WAS FULL OF OPPORTUNITIES FOR MY OLDER SISTER SINCE SHE WAS THE ONLY THAT THEY HAD AT THE TIME.
MY SISTER WAS SICK WHEN SHE CAME TO THE UNITED STATES TH ATS WHY MY MOM WANTED DOCTORS HERE TO HELP HER HERE WITH HER ILLNESS AT THE TIME. WHEN MY SISTER GOT CURED MY MOM ENDED UP STAYING HERE AND ME AND MY OTHER SISTER CAME TO LIFE:) MY DADS AMERICAN DREAM WAS USUAL TO EVERYONES WAS TO MAKE MONEY BUY A HOUSE AND A CAR. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE WAS THAT HE DID NT WANT TO GO BACK BECAUSE HE KNEW THAT HIS LIFE ON OUR LIFE WAS GOING TO BEGIN HERE IN THE UNITED STATES. WHEN MY MOM STARTED GETTING HOME SICK SHE KNEW THAT WE ALL HAD TO GO TO MEXICO BACK TO HER HOMELAND BUT SHE REALIZED THAT THIS COUNTRY OFFERED OPPORTUNITIES FOR ME AND SHE WANTS ME TO BE SOMETHING IN MY LIFE AND NOT DO THE SAME MISTAKE THAT SHE DID IN HER LIFE. THIS IS WHAT MY PARENTS ENDED UP SAYING AT THE END "LETS JUST SAY THAT OUR AMERICAN DREAM IS FOR YOU GIRLS NOT TO DO THE SAME MISTAKES IN LIFE AND SUCCEED IN LIFE, WHEN EVER YOU GIRLS ARE SOMETHING THAT YOU GIRLS WANT TO BE WITH PASSION YOU WOULD KNOW WHAT THE AMERICAN DREAM IS REALLY ABOUT" I THINK THAT BY THIS BOTH OF THEM WERE TRYING TO SAY THAT WE SHOULD LEARN FROM THEIR MISTAKES AND KNOW WHAT THIS COUNTRY OFFERS US AND WHAT IT HELPED US DO IN LIFE WITH THE THINGS THAT WE HAVE A PASSION TO GET AND A PASSION TO BE:)

WHY I BELIEVE IMMIGRANTS SHOULD STAY!!!

Immigrants stay here in the United States to better their lives all the time. Immigrant’s benefits both the country and themselves.when ever people do their taxes they get money back but immigrants don’t get anything back. The government keeps it because the undocumented people can’t allege their money because they need a social security number. Immigrants only benefit themselves by being able to have money to eat and pay bills each day. All the undocumented people want is to be able to have a roof for their family.
It is hard to be like a nomad moving from place to place and trying to settle themselves in a secure place. These immigrants have to start all over again from the bottom because they come here to the United States with no money, house, food, or job. People give everything up for a chance that they still don’t know if their life is going to be better but they still risk it. A lot of these undocumented people keep their word and stay here to work day and night in exchange to get paid less than any regular worker gets paid.
Undocumented people get treated like criminals. Like those 300 workers that got arrested in South Carolina. All they were doing wrong was work to get money everyone one needs money because money doesn’t grow on trees. Immigrants don’t do anything wrong with working here in the United States. How would you feel if you get kicked out because it was a mistake with your papers so now you’re the immigrant? Would you still feel the same about kicking undocumented people out? We all know that you wouldn’t like it all you do here is work and support your family right?
Most of these immigrants have been here all of their lives but are still considered undocumented. My older sister was brought here when she was about two weeks born but she can’t get her documents either way. She tried going to college but she couldn't’t get any financial aid but she couldn't’t because her immigration status. All she was able to get were scholarships but that really didn’t help she wasn’t in luck. So she only got little help but bills were too expensive so she had to drop out of college. I know that she is not the only person in this situation here in the United States. What stops the government to give a little help for those students that really have passion to study and be something in their lives? These students only want help and permission to be here legally. Others that have the chance to stay here and study here are just standing on the corner and dropping out of school with no job and selling drugs. What are those are’nt they the criminals instead of the people that are just here working and trying to go to school???

WE ARE NOT CRIMINALS!!!

This video shows on how i think that everyone should be treated equal. people do need to realize on the hard work it is to get here to the united states its not easy.

This video supports the way that i feel against deportation. people really don't know how hard it is to be able to stay here without being deported and being able to get the same rights than anyone else that has their citizenship.

When i seen this video it made my opinion stronger about against deportation.

TWO DOWN 13 MORE TO GO!

1.Go to the theater with my best friend for her birthday!
We were planning to go out for my best friends birthday but there was a chance of plans in her family! I know great!! but it was in a good way because she got to have a party for her sweet sixteen. we really didn't get to go where we wanted to go which was the movies but we got to party. In order to go my dad made me do my homework before i was to go out. which it was good because i didn't have to worry about it any more. when i got to her party she looked so pretty with her dress! her theme was Hollywood so everything looked so fancy. when the D.J got there they made her stand in front of everyone until everyone was done signing to her which was cute but she got really shy. Mostly all of her friends were there which was great for her because she had all of her friends and family together:)

1.Go paintball fighting with my family September 21st
I got the chance to go paintball fighting we went to Indiana to get a place that we can do that around Chicago. i only went with my sister her boyfriend and my cousins. It wasn't a lot of us but we had fun. We had to get up at six in the morning we left our house around seven to get there at ten. it was really cool because i really don't get to spend time with my cousins or anyone in the family so we decided to take a day off the week and go we had to go Sunday because we had to figure
out where to find a baby sitter for my cousins baby. we ended up coming back like until three but from there we went to eat to Lalo's restaurant to talk things that we have missed on which was a lot!! we were tired but we still did a cook out for our parents and we got the family together it wasn't in the plan but the opportunity showed up and we took it.

My Life as A Slave

Well I shall start with ma name which has been Siana Baker and I think im bout eighty seven years old. It was bout thirty years ago that I used to live with my master Mr.Smith when i wus a slave he would have never cared of how weak we was he would just whop us for any reason. I member once that I forgot to turn his room candles off he just called me in and said “you dirty black trash come here and put yo knees on that floor” I wus scared! I knew from other times that I couldn't look up because the whoop ping would have been worse. Mr. Smith would stop beatting on me when he would notice that I couldn’t get myself up no longer and that I was filled with blood all over. I had no right to go give a visit to no doctor so I had to work any ways right after I got myself cleaned up and he waited there till I was done changing and made me go back to work. Which was to cook, clean every place in the house, and pick food on the plantations. I had to work every single hour of the day and wus allowed to sleep one hour if Mr. Smith wus feeling in a good mood. I was always tired but I couldn’t do anything about it. All I had hope for was to wait for all of us slaves to be freed which there were rumors that it was gonna be soon. I was happy because from what my mother told me my older sister died because her master killed her but she never mentioned why. I wished that freedom would go on because i know nothing bout writing and i could have gone to school but it was too late.

I member that it was one of those white folks that gives announcements that said to the town that from that day on all the slaves should be freed I was crying for all that excitement I couldn’t believe it I left the plantation that instance. I went to live with my little sister which lived down town of Virginia which was were I meet my husband and had my wonderful three daughters.I want I want my grandchildren to read this letter so they can know what I went trough and how hard life was when I was a slave and mistreated. They have to know how lucky they are to live in a life so different than what I did. This way all ma grandchildren would learn not to give up on life because I didn’t so they shouldn’t either.

My Values compared to American Values

American Values

Q. Think about what you value the most and what America values the most. Do they match? why or why not? use what you know, what your classmates have said and what your family says.

A. The values that my family and I have are completely different from the values of America. I know that America values money and power. Those are things that I think are just to keep the countries name in its place. This is something that may be value to other people but not to all Americans. From what I believe money always comes and goes. The power that America wants is power that makes people go against each other all the time and this might be what is getting America in trouble.
What I value the most is
education and religion this is what my parents showed me and what they think is valuable too. Education is my most valuable thing because I put effort into it and get knowledge out of it this is like a give and get thing. America puts little attention to education and I think that is what makes Americans not understand each other. My family has always said that money comes and goes but that education stays forever. I think America has different values because it makes sure to have the needs to reach Americans different values so they might be making sure that we keep what we have.
My classmates and I have similar values they all have to do with
family traditions and culture that we like to keep in the family for ever. They are all different from American traditions because we worry about our tomorrow and our today. We all have same values but explain them in different ways and this made me feel stronger about how I feel about my strong and weak values. Most of us come from the same ethnic groups so this makes us combine our similar values but in different ways. The things that we value the least are depending on our economy and on what we respect in our family. We share similar values because we know how hard it is to get things in our lives and other rich Americans don’t so we our the ones that suffer the consequences. They don’t consider what the poor would struggle if they race the money on schools because we are the ones working for it not them.

A little bit about who i am and what i want to do.

1.Tell us something you have done that no one in this class has done.

One thing that I have done that I think no one in the class has is laying the wreath on the tomb of the unknown soldiers. This was something that was given to only four eight grade students
that were the top students. i was picked so i got to be in Washington D.C for a week and everything was paid for me. I got to know the honor to do this and lay a wreath on those soldiers that would never be known that gave their lives for their country.

2. Provide three adjectives for yourself

A. Open minded
B. Amusing
C.organized

3. Give us a brief history on your name
My name comes from my dad's sister which was the only person that supported my mother to have me. when my mother was pressured to get an abortion for me she just looked up and seen a calendar that had my name and she remembered my aunt and how much support she gave her so she decided to have me and name me after her.
